After the fantastic GameDevNorth 3, I was astonished to find so many developers based in the North West and how essential it was to bringing them together for a night of relaxed networking and socialising. After talking with Sam Mottershaw, we were delighted to be officially involved.
Although GameDevNorth is a friendly affair, some people need a gentle push to intermingle with others so the theme was “pub quiz” with teams randomly selected. On offer was a collection of XBox games, all developed by UK companies such as Travellers Tales, Codemasters, Media Molecule and Rockstar North.
Memorable Lines, Gaming Controversies, and even a special “Project Static” audio round, were a few of the rounds that tested the teams’ gaming knowledge, with some esoteric questions thrown in for good measure. Ben, with his theatre background and witty charm, proved to be a natural quizmaster and shared the duties with Sam, Ben (White Paper Games) and myself.
After a tense wait as the scores were tallied, “Team “B******” was deemed the winner with 18 points narrowly pipping Team “So Long, And Thanks for The Phil Fish” at 17. As per previous GameDevNorths, a business card raffle was held but with Paw Print Games recent Blackberry World success, the lucky winner received a Blackberry Playbook!
All in all, another great night with new and old friends. If your interested in attending the next event, GameDevNorth 5 will be held at the Kash Bar and you can register here
